Level of services

Level of services

What are the main points pro and against the services provided by the Police? Are you satisfied with it? Where do you see a need for improvement in the delivery of service?

Points

The NGRP has a very good crime solvability rate for a mid size police service and well trained officers. However during the past number of years a number of specialized services have been reduced or eliminated due to financial cut backs... services including, Community Policing, Internet Child Exploitations Unit, Crisis Negotiators, Ident and K-9. The town must now rely on other agencies for these services that have much longer response times, hours and sometimes days...

Some tasks assigned to police could instead by assigned to a professional, who could receive training for said task instead of having higher police budgets and presence.

The NGRP have moved from an all service police agency to one that provides limited service, relying on the RCMP support services (when available) in the area of PSD and Forensic Identification. For a town that is seeking to invite more business and professional people to take up residence this downgrading of services does not bode well. Having the ability to Investigate major crime events solidifies the police as a responsible, effective police service. Without the missing sections this fail
